NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-25 January 2002-New IMF report gives upbeat assessment of Denmark's economic performance (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has published a report of Denmark's economic performance as part of its annual review of the country's economy.
The report says that Denmark is weathering the global economic slowdown well, noting that even when the country's economic growth slowed in 2001, the unemployment rate fell to 5% and inflation stayed at about 2%. The IMF expects Denmark to see growth of 1.0-1.5% in the current year while the unemployment rate will likely rise moderately.
The IMF also said that in the long term the Danish government should keep spending in line if it wants to maintain budget surpluses and it should push ahead with labour market reforms, including integrating immigrants into the active work force, reports Reuters.
