NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-13 March 2002-Sonera opens broadband network from Moscow to western Europe (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Finnish telecommunications group Sonera has opened a broadband network based on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology from Moscow to St. Petersburg and further through Finland to western Europe.

The new network, which is seamlessly linked to Sonera's international broadband network, supports such Internet protocol (IP)-based service concepts as Global IP and IP-virtual private networking.

According to Sonera the network implementation is a step towards IP networks where both voice and data can be transmitted in the same network.
