Sodra Cell AB sells stake in Latvian pulp mill project to Metsaliitto

The Swedish pulp producer Sodra Cell AB, part of the forest industry group Sodra, has entered into an agreement to sell its share in the Latvian company A/S Baltic Pulp to the Finnish forest industry group Metsaliitto.

Baltic Pulp is a project company investigating the possibilities for building a 600,000 tonnes/year pulp mill in Latvia. The company is owned by Metsaliitto (34%), Sodra Cell (33%) and the Latvian state (33%).

Sodra Cell said that it had decided to withdraw from the project due to the changed European market for pulp.

No financial details were disclosed.
