Nokia to build PMR communications network in Beijing

Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia said today (1 April) that it had signed a contract with the Chinese telecomms company Beijing Just Top Network Communications Company Limited to build the first phase of the Beijing municipal government's shared Digital Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) communications network.

Under the contract, the Beijing municipal government shared network would adopt Nokia's TETRA IP technology, the company said.

Nokia said that it would deliver the TETRA switching equipment, base stations, dispatcher stations, its Network Deployment Package, its Nokia technical support package and a package of training services to help develop staff competency.

The shared network has been listed as one of the top 60 major projects for the Beijing municipality and it would cover all venues for the 2008 Olympic Games, according to Nokia.

Beijing Just Top Network Communication Company Limited is owned by Beijing Communication of China Netcom Group, Beijing State-owned Assets Management Co Ltd and Beijing Huaxun Group.
