Ericsson supplies seamless 2G/3G WCDMA network in Taiwan

Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson said today (7 January) that it had signed a contract with the Taiwanese convergent mobile communication service provider Far EasTone to supply a seamless 2G/3G WCDMA network in Taiwan.

Under the contract Ericsson would expand and upgrade the present 2G system by delivering a fully integrated GSM-GPRS-WCDMA solution to ensure a seamless evolution from 2G to 3G.

Ericsson said that the solution included WCDMA radio access network, core network and professional services for Far EasTone's subsidiary Yuan-Ze Telecommunications.

The two companies had also signed a framework agreement for the expansion of Far EasTone's present GSM network and associated services, Ericsson said.

No financial information was provided.
