Nordic Business Report, May 5, 2003

NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-5 May 2003-SaabTech cuts 200 jobs(C)1994-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Swedish high-tech group Saab said today (5 May) that its avionics and electronic warfare subsidiary SaabTech would reduce the number of employees at its operations in Jarfalla, Kista and Uppsala by a total of 200.

The job cuts would be equally divided between development engineers and administrative personnel, Saab said.

"We have had to serve notice because several of our major development projects are entering the production phase without having been replaced by new development orders of corresponding magnitude. At the same time, this notice represents a rationalisation that strengthens our competitive clout," commented Bjorn Erman, managing director of SaabTech.

"It's unfortunate but necessary that we implement these cutbacks. On the other hand, the company will do its best to provide support to employees who are affected by the change," Erman added.
