US Steel extends strategic alliance with Kvaerner Songer

The Norwegian engineering and construction group Aker Kvaerner said on Thursday (2 October) that US Steel had extended its strategic alliance with the Kvaerner Songer, part of Aker Kvaerner's US construction and maintenance business Kvaerner Holdings.
The alliance, which covers all construction services related to US Steel's blast furnace projects in the US, was extended until February 2008, Aker Kvaerner said.
"Since the inception of the alliance in 1998, Kvaerner Songer has performed in excess of USD110m in services for blast furnace repairs at Gary Works, Fairfield Works and the Edgar Thomson plant of Mon Valley Works," Aker Kvaerner said.
"The first project scheduled to be executed under the extension is the #6 Blast Furnace repair at the Gary Works. This project is currently scheduled for the end of the fourth quarter 2003," Aker Kvaerner added.
One US dollar (USD) is worth approximately 0.6 British pounds (GBP).
