Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia said on Monday (15 September) that according to its research results, mobile e-mail usage would increase by 35% during the next 18 months among businesses already using mobile phones.

The Nokia research results showed that 39% of polled European companies intended to provide mobile workers with mobile e-mail access within 18 months, while 19% of the businesses said that they would provide access to company information systems - such as company databases and intranets - from mobile terminals, at a growth rate of 202%.

Nokia estimated that business users generate 50% of operator revenues from a user base of around 20% of total mobile handsets.

Distribution, utilities, real estate, manufacturing, financial and professional service industries would have the most growth in usage, while utilities and agribusiness and the hotel, restaurant and catering industries would have the highest mobile e-mail penetration among mobile-providing companies, according to the company.
