NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-16 February 2004-Bonnier AB sees profit soar to SEK1.18bn(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Swedish family-owned media group Bonnier AB released its 2003 figures on Monday (16 February), posting an operating profit of SEK1,179m, as compared to SEK19m in 2002.

Group sales increased by 7% and amounted to SEK18,710m, boosted by good growth outside Sweden.

"Our book operations, and particularly book publishing in Germany, which includes the Harry Potter series, are a major source of satisfaction, as is (the film distributor) SF's success with the Lord of the Rings movies throughout the Nordic Region. However, all business areas contributed to the improvement in profit," said Bengt Braun, president and CEO of Bonnier.

"Other significant reasons for the strong level of profit are cost savings and the termination of insufficiently profitable projects," Braun added.

One Swedish krona (SEK) is worth approximately 0.07 British pounds (GBP).
