Finnish-Swedish telecomms operator TeliaSonera AB said on Friday (10 June) that its Swedish subsidiary TeliaSonera Sweden (Telia) had signed an agreement with the Swedish energy company Lulea Energi AB, under which Telia would provide broadband services to households through Lulea Energi's open municipal broadband network, called LuNet.

Under the agreement, households would be offered the service Telia Bredband Stadsnat (Telia Broadband Municipal Network) with speeds up to 10 Mbit per second.

The agreement would cover in the first year the provision of services to some 6,000 apartments and individual home owners.

TeliaSonera said that the agreement with Lulea Energi was the first in which Telia acts as an Internet service provider to an energy company that owns a municipal broadband network.
