TeliaSonera opens 3G network in Sweden

Finnish-Swedish telecomms operator TeliaSonera AB said on Wednesday (10 March) that its Swedish subsidiary TeliaSonera Sweden had opened its 3G (third generation) network.

The opened 3G network would operate from the start with TeliaSonera Sweden's GSM network, and all of the company's mobile customers would be able to use both networks while the subscriptions and prices would be the same regardless of which network users connect to.

With the opening of the 3G network TeliaSonera Sweden's customers would also gain access to the mobile Internet at broadband speed, initially in 280 of Sweden's 290 municipalities.

TeliaSonera said that TeliaSonera Sweden's mobile network currently covered 99% and its 3G network 75% of the Swedish population.
