Smedvig ASA receives NOK1.17bn drilling assignment from A/S Norske Shell

The Norwegian offshore drilling contractor Smedvig ASA said on Thursday (18 March) that it had received a letter of intent for a NOK1.17bn drilling assignment for its deepwater drillship West Navigator from A/S Norske Shell.
The firm part of the assignment covers the drilling of eight deepwater wells on the Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian Sea.
"The contract with Shell secures long-term employment for West Navigator and confirms Smedvig's position within harsh environment deepwater drilling. This contract is an important step in the long-term development of Smedvig," said Kjell E Jacobsen, CEO of Smedvig.
One Norwegian krone (NOK) is worth approximately 0.08 British pounds (GBP).
