NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-13 May 2004-TeliaSonera receives record assignment for IP addresses(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Finnish-Swedish telecomms operator TeliaSonera AB said on Thursday (13 May) that it had received the largest allocation to date of IPv6 addresses from RIPE NCC, the Internet organisation responsible for allocation of IP addresses.

The number of addresses TeliaSonera received was many times the number of addresses currently available on the entire Internet, according to the company.

TeliaSonera said that Internet communication was currently based on the IPv4 protocol, but would in the future be replaced by the next version known as IPv6.

IPv6 would have many improvements for example within security, while the benefits for consumers would be increased simplicity and higher accessibility to the Internet, the company added.

Above all, IPv6 would have many times the number of currently available IP addresses, TeliaSonera said.
