Finnish police might have uncovered the author of "Sonera book" - report

Nordic Business Report, Sept 17, 2004

NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-17 September 2004-Finnish police might have uncovered the author of "Sonera book" - report(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Finnish police reportedly think that they might have identified the anonymous writer of the so-called "Sonera book" which claimed to be an insider report of bad business practices within the Finnish telecomms operator Sonera, now part of the Finnish-Swedish TeliaSonera AB.

The book claimed that the company's management was involved in criminal actions, leading Kaj-Erik Relander, the former CEO of Sonera, to file a complaint with police in autumn 2002.

The police reportedly now believe that the author was a former consultant of Sonera, who is suspected of slander, but has denied writing the book. According to the Finnish online news service YLE24, the motive for the book could have been an argument over wages and the consultant's short-lived career with Sonera. Audits of Sonera's bookkeeping have reportedly not produced any evidence of the alleged embezzlement, but accusations of Sonera illegally prying into employee phone records have led to a criminal investigation.
