NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-12 April 2005-Finnish trade union to sue TeliaSonera over cutbacks - report(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
The Finnish trade union Union of Salaried Employees (TU) reportedly said on Monday (11 April) that it would file charges against the Finnish-Swedish telecomms operator TeliaSonera for the company's decision to cut more than 300 jobs in Finland.
TU reportedly wishes to find out if a profitable company has the right to make large cutbacks by referring to financial and production reasons.
According to one chairman of TU, the charges would be brought against TeliaSonera once the details of the matter and grounds for dismissal had been looked into.
TeliaSonera announced on Monday that its Finnish subsidiary TeliaSonera Finland (Sonera) had concluded its personnel negotiations and would reduce at the most 330 employees in Finland.
Originally TeliaSonera had said that it might cut some 650 jobs, but now said that the number would shrink even more, reported the Finnish news agency STT.
The company has new job openings, and therefore the exact number of reductions could be only be known in December 2005, TeliaSonera reportedly said in a statement.
