Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia introduced on Thursday (10 February) a new service based on multimedia messaging that allows consumers to send voice clips over-the-air.

The "Nokia Xpress audio messaging" service would enable consumers to personalize messages in a spontaneous and creative way, according to the company.

In terms of interoperability, audio messages could be sent to all MMS-enabled GSM handsets.

To support mass-market adoption of audio messaging Nokia is also introducing support for legacy phones within its MMS solution. The Nokia Multimedia Application Gateway would enable the sending of audio messages also to phones that do not support MMS.
