Ericsson supplies 3G mobile network in Hungary

Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson said on Tuesday (18 January) that it had been selected by the Norwegian telecomms group Telenor ASA's Hungarian subsidiary Pannon GSM to supply the first phase of the company's 3G (third generation) mobile network.

Under the contract Ericsson would provide the infrastructure of the UMTS-based mobile system.

The cooperation would enable Pannon GSM to continue to lead the mobile data evolution in Hungary, according to Ericsson.

The network would be rolled out to other parts of Hungary in late 2005 and early 2006.

The companies had also signed a contract on the modernization of Pannon's GSM EDGE network, Ericsson added.

No financial information was provided.
