Metro International S.A. enters into franchise agreement in Russia

The Swedish-controlled international newspaper group Metro International S.A. said on Tuesday (5 July) that it had entered into a franchise agreement with the Russian newspaper 'Mempo' in St Petersburg.
The agreement means that Metro acquires the trademarks 'Mempo' and 'Metro' in the Russian Federation.
'Mempo' would use the trademarks on a franchise basis and pay a royalty fee to Metro in return.
Metro also receives an option giving it the right to acquire 51% of the company publishing 'Mempo' at a later stage, the company said.
