NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-8 June 2005-Saab to cut 350 jobs in Linkoping(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Swedish defence and aerospace group Saab said on Wednesday (8 June) that it had given notice to 350 employees at its operations in Linkoping, Sweden.

The job cuts will affect blue-collar employees at Saab Aerostructures, Saab Aerosystems, Saab Aircraft and Saab Support.

"It's extremely sad to have to give notice to skilled co-workers, but the final JAS 39 Gripen will be delivered to the Swedish customer in 2007. Manufacturing of details for the aircraft takes place about two years before final delivery, which means that production will slow down as early as next year," said Pontus Kallen, general manager of Saab Aerostructures.

Saab said that it expects to reduce its workforce by a further 1,000-1,500 in 2005 and 2006.
