The Swedish healthcare and laboratory equipment and systems provider Getinge AB said on Monday (16 January) that it had begun negotiations with union representatives regarding the closure of a patient handling equipment plant in Gloucester, in the UK.
The closure of the UK plant and the concentration of production to existing plants in Belgium and Canada is expected to cost some SEK35m. It is thought that the closure will reduce annual costs by approximately SEK50m from 2007.
Getinge is currently manufacturing active and passive patient lifts in Gloucester.
One Swedish krona (SEK) is worth approximately 0.07 British pounds (GBP).
