Volvo Aero expands manufacturing agreement with General Electric Company

Swedish trucks, buses, equipment and engines manufacturer Volvo Group said on Friday (20 January) that its aircraft and rocket engines unit Volvo Aero has expanded its components manufacturing agreement with General Electric Company.

The new agreement increase Volvo Aero's participation in the manufacture of General Electric's new GEnx engine, and is estimated to be worth an additional SEK6bn over a period of 30 years.

Under a previous agreement Volvo Aero already manufactures low pressure booster spools, fan hub frames and turbine rear frames for the GEnx. Under the new agreement Volvo Aero will also design, manufacture and support fan modules and high pressure turbines.

The GEnx engine has been selected to power the Boeing 787 and 747-8 as well as the Airbus A350.

One Swedish krona (SEK) is worth approximately 0.07 British pounds (GBP).
