European Commission approves Aker Yards ASA's acquisition of ALSTOM's shipbuilding activities in France

The Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards ASA said on Tuesday (28 March) that it has been informed by the European Commission that the Commission has no objections to the proposed acquisition of ALSTOM's shipbuilding activities.
"As there are still a number of the already mentioned conditions pending, the transaction is expected to be concluded by the end of April 2006," Aker Yards said in a brief statement.

Aker Yards announced in January that it had agreed to acquire a 75% stake in a new shipbuilding company comprising ALSTOM's shipyards in Saint-Nazaire and Lorient.
