NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-20 November 2006-Metro International SA discontinues Copenhagen afternoon edition of MetroXpress(C)1994-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Swedish-controlled international newspaper group Metro International SA announced on Monday (20 November) that it has discontinued the Copenhagen afternoon edition of its free MetroXpress newspaper.
"Despite a positive development in its readership results, the Copenhagen afternoon edition has not met our demanding financial targets during the trial period and we have thus taken the disciplined decision to close it down," said Pelle Tornberg, CEO of Metro International.
"MetroXpress is however performing very well and we will continue to further strengthen its leadership of the Danish free newspaper market," Tornberg added.
Metro International said that the discontinuation of the edition will not have a significant impact on its results for the quarter.
Metro International, headquartered in Luxembourg, is the world's largest newspaper group with over 38m weekly readers. Metro editions are published in 93 cities in 21 countries. Metro International is listed on the Nordic exchange in Stockholm.
