Icelandic transport solutions group Avion Group hf said on Wednesday (22 November) that it has changed its name to Hlutafelagid Eimskipafelag Islands (Hf. Eimskipafelag Islands).

According to Magnus Thorsteinsson, chairman of the company, the name change was due to the fact that some 80% of the group's turnover is generated from Eimskip.

Avion Group was established in 2005 to invest in the transport and logistics sector. The company operates at 174 operational bases and has over 100 temperature-controlled cold storage facilities worldwide as well as a fleet of some 25 aircraft, 40-50 vessels and 1,340 trucks. The company has a total of 9,500 employees. Hf. Eimskipafelag Islands is listed on the Icelandic Stock Exchange.
