Danish energy group DONG Energy A/S said on Thursday (19 April) that it has awarded Siemens Wind Power a contract for 30 wind turbines.

The 3.6MW wind turbines will be installed at the Gunfleet Sands project at the mouth of the river Thames in the UK.

The total investment cost for the Gunfleet Sands wind farm, including the wind turbines, is approximately GBP200m.

The Gunfleet Sands wind farm is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2009.

DONG Energy, headquartered in Fredericia, Denmark, is Denmark's leading energy group with operations throughout the value chain, from exploration and production to trading and consulting. The group reported revenues of DKK35.66bn in 2006. DONG Energy is 73%-owned by the Danish state.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 10.98 Danish kroner (DKK).
