Sweden's Tele2 AB signs roaming agreement with Vimpelcom

Swedish-based European telecomms operator Tele2 AB said on Monday (13 August) that it has signed a 10-year national roaming agreement with the Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom.

In connection with the agreement, Tele2 has agreed to sell its operation in the Russian region of Irkutsk to Vimpelcom, the company said.

Vimpelcom will pay approximately SEK1.6bn in cash on a debt and cash free basis for Tele2 Irkutsk.

The roaming agreement between Tele2 Russia and Vimpelcom will enable Tele2 customers seamless roaming at low prices across Vimpelcom's network in Russia, where Tele2 has no mobile network presence.

Roaming with Voice and GPRS services will be made available within six months, the company added.

Tele2, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, has more than 30m customers in 22 countries. Tele2 is listed on the Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 13.72 Swedish kronor (SEK).
