Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards ASA said on Thursday (29 March) that it has received a EUR410m contract to build a new Musica class cruise vessel for the cruise operator MSC Cruise.
The new vessel, the MSC Magnifica, is the fourth Musica class ship built by Aker Yards for MSC Cruises. Like its sister vessels (Musica, Orchestra and Poesia), the Magnifica will be 294 metres long and just over 32 metres wide. The ship will carry up to 4,000 passengers and crew, and will comply with the Panama Canal Standard.
The Magnifica will be built at Aker Yards Saint-Nazaire in France, and will be delivered in 2010.
Aker Yards, headquartered in Aker, Norway, has 20,000 employees at 17 shipyards in Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Romania and Ukraine. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and traded under the ticker AKY.
One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.47 euros (EUR).
