Ericsson to launch 3G network in Uruguay

Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC) said on Wednesday (12 September) that it has signed a deal with Movistar, an operator in Uruguay and part of the Telefonica group, for the launch of its 3G network.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will be the sole supplier and network integrator for Movistar's new WCDMA/HSPA core and radio network.

Ericsson's HSPA solution enables download speeds of up to 14.4Mb/s and upload speeds of 1.4Mb/s, the company added.

No financial information was provided.

Ericsson is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its equipment is used in more than 1,000 networks in 140 countries, and 40% of the world's mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems. The company is listed on the Nordic Exchange in Stockholm, and its shares are also traded on the London Stock Exchange and on Nasdaq.
