Swedish private equity investor Ratos AB acquires Swiss medical technology business Medisize Medical

Swedish private equity investor Ratos AB said on Thursday (28 February) that its 78%-owned Finnish medical devices subsidiary Medifiq Healthcare has acquired Medisize Medical, a division of the Swiss group Medisize Holding.

The purchase consideration is based on an enterprise value of SEK610m.

Medisize Medical develops and manufactures medical technology within Airway Management, Pharma Packaging and Medical Devices. The company has production facilities in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Ireland and the Czech Republic, and reported sales of SEK620m in 2007.

The acquired business will be combined with Medifiq Healthcare to form an international medical technology group with 1,000 employees and annual sales of approximately SEK970m.

"It is gratifying that Medifiq through the acquisition of Medisize Medical can create a large, profitable and international player within medical technology. The acquisition will provide major synergy gains within distribution, production and administration," commented Arne Karlsson, CEO of Ratos.

Ratos will participate in the acquisition by providing equity of SEK385m, and will hold a 92% stake in the new group.

Ratos, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, invests in and develops primarily unlisted companies. Its portfolio has a market capitalisation of approximately SEK31bn. Ratos is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 12.34 Swedish kronor (SEK).
