Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) said on Wednesday (23 January) that it has signed a frame agreement with the Swiss operator Swisscom to expand and upgrade its WCDMA/HSPA network.
The upgrade will enable high-speed mobile broadband coverage across 90% of Switzerland, the company said.
As key supplier to Swisscom, Ericsson will provide an HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) solution that will upgrade the operator's network to enable peak speeds of up to 7.2Mb/s on the downlink.
No financial information was provided.
Ericsson is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its equipment is used in more than 1,000 networks in 140 countries, and 40% of the world's mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems. The company is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm and its shares are also traded on the London Stock Exchange and on NASDAQ.
