Swedish retail trading group Axfood AB said on Monday (28 January) that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of the family-owned grocery chain PrisXtra.

The transaction was initially announced in December 2007.

PrisXtra operates five retail outlets and an Internet store in the Stockholm area. The company has some 240 employees and an annual turnover of approximately SEK700m.

Axfood said that it will operate and develop further PrisXtra as a separate company within the group.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Axfood, headquartered in Solna, Sweden, operates within the retail and wholesale trade, and has some 220 own stores under the brands Hemkop, Willys and Willys hemma. The company's main shareholder is Axel Johnson AB (46%). Axfood is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 12.72 Swedish kronor (SEK).
