Finnish engineering and technology group Metso Corporation (OMX Helsinki: MEO1V) said on Monday (23 June) that it has agreed to acquire GE Energy's Lachine Main Plant facility near Montreal in Quebec, Canada.

The heavy fabrication and machining facility manufactures hydraulic turbines and power generation equipment and has some 200 employees.

The acquired facility will be integrated into Metso Minerals' Mining business line and will increases Metso's supply capacity for large mining equipment.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Metso, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, provides technology and services to customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries. The group has nearly 27,000 employees in some 50 countries and reported net sales of EUR6bn in 2007.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.27 euros (EUR).
