Finnish telecomms infrastructure company Nokia Siemens Networks said on Tuesday (11 March) that it has been selected by the Italian fixed network operator Fastweb as a technological partner when the company launches mobile services later this year.

Fastweb will start complementary wireless services as it becomes a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), using Nokia Siemens Networks solutions for an effective rollout of the new service.

Nokia Siemens Networks will provide Fastweb with a suite of convergent core network products and network implementation services to facilitate the launch of mobile data services and resolve potential bandwidth issues.

The contract also includes a service package for commissioning, installation and launch support to prepare Fastweb for the MVNO operation.

Nokia Siemens Networks, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, is an international telecomms infrastructure company with operations in some 150 countries worldwide and pro-forma revenues of EUR17.1bn. The company is owned by the Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and the German electrical engineering and electronics company Siemens.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.31 euros (EUR).
