Ericsson to provide field maintenance activities for Telcel in Mexico

Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) said on Monday (5 May) that it has been selected by the Mexican operator Telcel, a subsidiary of America Movil, to provide field maintenance activities for more than 3,800 additional sites for Telcel's GSM, TDMA and transmission networks.

Under the annual agreement, Ericsson will expand its existing managed services contracts with Telcel for field maintenance and will increase its responsibility from one to all nine of Mexico's cellular regions.

Ericsson will provide preventive, planned and corrective maintenance services for Telcel's multi-vendor network and site infrastructure, the company said.

The agreement will improve network availability, leverage network investment and reduce operating costs, Ericsson added.

No financial information was provided.

Ericsson, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, provides technology and services to telecomms operators all over the world. The group has over 70,000 employees in 175 countries and reported revenues of SEK189bn in 2007. Ericsson is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm, the London Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 11.97 Swedish kronor (SEK).
