Getinge AB acquires US company Datascope Corp

Swedish medical technology company Getinge AB (OMX Stockholm: GETI B) said on Monday (15 September) that it has agreed to acquire the US company Datascope Corp (NASDAQ: DSCP).

Getinge is paying USD53 per share in cash, which represents a premium of 34% and values Datascope at USD865m.

Datascope develops and manufactures products for counterpulsation therapy to improve blood circulation in coronary arteries, as well as products for vascular surgery and endovascular interventions. The company has some 765 employees and achieved sales of USD231m in the financial year 2007/2008.

The acquisition is part of Getinge's strategy to strengthen its Cardiovascular division, its product portfolio and sales organisation. Getinge also said that it expects significant synergies from the deal.

Getinge, headquartered in Getinge, Sweden, is a medical technical company active within surgery, intensive care, infection control and care ergonomics. The group has over 10,300 employees and reported sales of SEK16.4bn in 2007.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.79 US dollars (USD). One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 12.13 Swedish kronor (SEK).
