Ericsson to provide HSPA-based mobile broadband modules to LG Electronics

Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson (OMX Stockholm:ERIC A) (OMX Stockholm:ERIC B) (NASDAQ:ERIC) said on Monday (29 September) that it has been selected by LG Electronics to provide mobile broadband modules based on HSPA.

LG Electronics notebooks and netbooks will include mobile broadband modules from Ericsson by the third quarter of 2008.

HSPA provides a DSL-like experience wirelessly with true mobility and there are currently more than 207 commercially deployed HSPA networks globally, serving more than one billion subscribers, Ericsson said.

Market projections indicate that in 2011, approximately 200 million notebooks will ship annually and Ericsson anticipates that 50% of those notebooks will feature a built-in HSPA mobile broadband module.

Ericsson, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, provides technology and services to telecomms operators all over the world. The group has over 70,000 employees in 175 countries and reported revenues of SEK189bn in 2007.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 12.16 Swedish kronor.
