The US Field Artillery Association announces the three winners of the annual undergraduate academic or vocational scholarships and congratulates them on their outstanding accomplishments.
2004 Scholarships. The three $1,000 scholarships were awarded in the categories of Association member, immediate family of an enlisted member and immediate family of an officer member.
Member. Major (Ret) Jason R. Frei of South Bend, Indiana, is an MBA student at the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana. Major Frei from the Marines for medical reasons 1 September 2004 after he was disabled in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to his retirement, he was assigned to the 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, California. He is a member of the Old Breed Chapter.

Family of Enlisted Member. Julie A. Bennett of Enid, Oklahoma, is a Junior at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma, majoring in History and has a 4.00 GPA. Her father, Command Sergeant Major Larry P. Bennett, is the Command Sergeant Major for the 45th Field Artillery Brigade with the Oklahoma Army National Guard in Enid, Oklahoma. He is a member of the Thunderbird Chapter.
Family of Officer Member. Callie L. Puckett of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, is a Sophomore at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, majoring, in Business with a 3.80 GPA. Her father, Colonel Anthony J. Puckett, is Commander of the 30th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and is a member of the Hard Chargers Chapter.
2005 Scholarships. The scholarships are for worthy USFAA members and their family members to help them attain their academic or vocational goals. To compete, applicants must be admitted to an accredited university, college or vocational undergraduate program of study; and complete, sign and submit the application packet to the USFAA by the deadline (US Field Artillery Association, P.O. Box 33027, Fort Sill, Oklahoma 73503-0027).
The forms and details of the application are available online at www.fieldartillery.org or by calling the Association at (580) 355-4677. The deadline for the 2005 USFAA Scholarships is 1 July 2005.
Potential applicants should note that incomplete packets will not be considered. Among other requirements, the applicant must provide a high school or college transcript, as applicable; an estimate of annual schooling expenses and itemization of his/her income and other grants or scholarships; three reference forms filled out; and a statement of his/her educational goals.
In 2005, the Association will award at least one $1,000 scholarship in each of the three categories with the potential for the award of additional scholarships of the same or lesser amounts, depending on the availability of funds and the discretion of the USFAA Scholarship Committee; all decisions are final. Scholarship awards will be mailed directly to the winners' schools' scholarship offices or the bursars.
