Constellation (CV 64) celebrated her 40th anniversary at NAS North Island, Calif., on 27 October 2001. After enjoying a picnic to mark the occasion, the crew members hosted more than 270 former Connie Sailors at a reception in the ship's hangar bay. Constellation returned from her 20th overseas deployment on 15 September 2001, and the ship's current commanding officer, Capt.

John Miller, gave credit to the ship's alumni for the carrier's continuing capability.
