Blue Angels events coordinator Maj. Bruce Shank, USMC, flight surgeon LCdr. Pat McMahon and LCdr. Paul Moellere were awarded the Navy/Marine Corps Medal on 9 May for heroism in a noncombat situation. The three team members rescued 2nd Lt. Nolan Porter, USAF, a student navigator at VT-4, on 14 August 1999 after he was struck by lightning while windsurfing near Pensacola, Fla.
