Structured to win wars - Organization - Brief Article

Airman, Jan, 2003 by Louis A. Arana-Barradas

America's Air Force had its origin early in the last century. It was mainly a dream then, with a few spindly aircraft owned by the Army's Signal Corns.

Because of people with great vision -- pioneers who foresaw the airplane's military potential -- the fledgling flying corps grew. Eventually it joined the military mainstream and branched out on its own.

The United States has the world's mightiest air and space force. Now, space, not clouds, is the new frontier. Getting to that peak wasn't easy. It took decades and the hard work of a talented and dedicated group of visionaries who shaped the Air Force.

Men and women of equal foresight ensure it continues to grow today. This total force controls the air, providing America with the global vigilance, reach and power it needs.

That's a tough job in a world plagued with brushfire conflicts and terrorism. Airmen serve in Air Force major commands and organizations worldwide. They have the best technology, information, aircraft, spacecraft arid weapons to do their jobs.

So, almost 10 years after the Wright brothers took to the skies in a wood and fabric airplane, today's airmen are not dreaming of airpower. They are airpower. Vigilant and ready to prevent threats, with the worldwide reach to limit crises and the power to win wars.

It's what America deserves.
