Riding the tide: quantum leaps in technology—a century in the making
Airman, March, 2003 by Chuck Roberts
Scientists from the Air Force Research Laboratory materials and manufacturing directorate invented, developed and licensed a vein-viewing device to rapidly and accurately locate a patient's veins to administer life-sustaining intravenous fluids in poor light. Using night vision goggles with a special filter, Blair said the technology will provide a broad range of uses for battlefield and civilian medical care. The Air Force is working with InfraRed Systems Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, to manufacture and market the technology.
Blair said the Air Force is well-suited for such endeavors. "We've got some of the best scientists in the world. It's great to be able to team, partner and use each other's expertise."
