Riding in style - Short Stuff

Girls' Life, Feb-March, 2003

May I have your attention, please! Is riding a mass-transit bus cramping your style? Hartford, Conn., officials have found a way to make public transportation cool. With Art-on-the-Go, more than a dozen African-American teens who participate in the Urban League's after-school program at Weaver High School get to create original artwork and write copy for those big advertising bill-boards that appear on the sides of Connecticut Transit city buses.

The designs will promote the Hartford-based Amistad Foundation, which collects art and artifacts that document African-American history. In March, two final designs will be chosen. And starting in May, buses in Hartford will get a total makeover! Now,. if only they could make the cheese wagon funky.
