Generation Avon
Girls' Life, Dec, 2001
"Ding-dong, Avon calling" is a saying most teen girls have never even heard. "I thought Avon was for older women," says Britney Glassman, 13, "but was I ever wrong." Avon, the world's largest direct seller of beauty products, is now targeting teens for a beauty line launching in 2003. Teen Business will allow teens to buy inexpensive cosmetics and sell them to other teens through person-to-person contact, catalogs and the Internet.
Avon may be over 100 years old, but that doesn't mean its customers have to be. Girls will not only make money and have fun with Teen Business, but Avon spokesperson Victor Beaudet says this will also "help them build relationships by relating and talking with one another, too."
