Girls' Life, Feb-March, 2002

We've got mail!

September 11th

CL did an excellent job dealing with the Sept. 11 tragedy. "Together At Ground Zero" [D/J '02] shows kids and teens really can make a difference!

Janey

Vanessa and Jackie were so brave to volunteer at Ground Zero. They took time out of their lives to help people they didn't even know. I really admire them for their courageous efforts.

Tina

It really touched me when I read about the Brown Street Academy's fifth-grade class raising $1,000 in pennies. It inspired me to start a penny drive at my school and donate all the money to the American Red Cross.

Heather

Thank you for putting "The First 24 Hours" in your D/J '02 issue. Although it's difficult to be reminded of the terrorist attacks, I now realize I'm not alone. I know our country is irreplaceable and precious, and that many other girls feel the same way.

More Than Measurements

"Does Size Really Matter?" D/J '02] really helped me deal with my oh-so skinny friends. I'm much bigger than most of my friends, and sometimes I get so embarrassed when they talk about their tiny clothes sizes. Thanks to your article, I know size really doesn't matter in our friendship.

A reader

Shopping used to be a nightmare for me and my BFF. She likes to go to Express, which sells clothes that are too big for me. And I like Limited Too, which carries nothing in her size. Thanks to "Does Size Really Matter?" we've decided not to shop together, which has eliminated our fights!

Little Black Dress

I loved the GL beauty/fashion article [D/J '02] about getting four different party looks with one black dress. Sometimes, mags have outrageous clothes and makeup I'd never wear--but your outfits are fabulous! I am running out to get an LBD. It not only looks great with everything, but it's also an awesome way to save money.

Grace

GL saved me a ton of money by featuring the LBD. I had a Christmas party, family reunion, New Year's Eve bash and my BFF's bar mitzvah coming up, and I didn't know what to wear to any of them. After your article, I bought a dress just like your LBD for only $30. I wore it to all four occasions. Thanks for solving my fashion woes.

Life Lesson

"Popularity Rules" [D/J '02] shows girls that popularity isn't the most important thing in life. A true friend is what really counts. Thanks!

Lindsey

Makes Scents

I took the "Scope Out Your Signature Scent" [D/J '02] quiz. Turns out I'm a Hippie Chick, who loves musky or woodsy scents. I picked up some jasmine oils from The Body Shop for only $5. I not only smell great, but I didn't spend all my birthday bucks.

Rest and Relaxation

"I Quit" [D/J '02] is such a great article! I was involved in so many different activities after school that I never had time to relax or just watch an episode of Friends. I decided to quit the clubs and sports I don't really like anymore. Now, I have more time to hang out and chill. And the best part is that I don't feel the least bit guilty about it!

Truly Talented

The D/J '02 Short Stuff article about Brenna K. is awesome. I think it's really cool that you did an update on her. I know Brenna and her family because we both ski in the same area. Brenna's a great girl, and she is truly talented. I'm glad your readers got a chance to learn more about her.

Jeana

A Real Rocker

Michelle Branch rocks! I bought her CD after reading about her in the D/J '02 Spotlight. I can't believe she's only 18. Michelle has such a mature sound that's totally unique, and she plays guitar! She's nothing like those pop princesses out there. Thanks for featuring a true musician!

Carrie

Copy Cat

I used to get mad at my BFF for copying everything I do--from the clothes I wear to my hairstyle. But thanks to "Friendship Flubs-Forgive 'em or Forget 'em?" [D/J '02], I realize I shouldn't ditch her for being a copy cat. Friends are bound to like the same stuff. Now, I take her copying as a compliment.
