The girls beat the boys! - Short stuff - college attendance trends

Girls' Life, Feb-March, 2002

What a giant step for femalekind! For the first time in history, girls might actually outnumber boys on college campuses. According to sociologist John Reynolds of Florida State University, recent findings show 75 percent of girls aim for college degrees vs. 66 percent of boys. Why the sudden surge of girls going for degrees? Reynolds gives most of the credit to moms! Girls get inspired by earlier generations of women who went to college.

Plus, girls now realize they have more career opportunities than becoming teachers, nurses and secretaries (jobs most often taken by college-educated women in the '70s). Girls today see lots more job opps--doctors, CEOs and other professional positions that require furthering their schooling. So shouldn't you be studying for your PSATs?
