Hotshot - Short Stuff - drag racing teen - Brief Article
Girls' Life, June, 2002
Talk about a lead foot! She's not even old enough to have a driver's license, but she puts the pedal to the metal. Chaunece Hayman, 13, of Upper Marlboro, Md., has been drag racing for three years. She and her car Miss Attitude burn rubber down the strip at 75 to 80 mph. Chaunece explains that a race is only 1/8 of a mile and is run on a straight strip of road (no laps, like in the Indy 500).
Chaunece's dad and her personal engine builder Mike Corbet are her coaching team. They have taught her the ropes and led her to victory. "My first race, I came in first and beat a couple boys," is how Chaunece remembers her proudest racing moment. And, yes, you guessed it, Chaunece says the coolest part about drag racing is "being able to drive a car." Hmm, wonder if she can parallel park.
