That's why the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children developed NetSmartz a Web site intended to educate young people and their parents about Internet safety.

So surf on over to www.netsmarts.org, and click on Netsmartz Teens to learn about some dangerous online scenarios. Hear, in the own words, the story of 15-year-old Amy, who ran away from twice to spend time with a man she met online. The second time I ran away. I didn't really want to but I knew if I didn't there could be trouble because he showed up at my house and was outside waiting to me. The man is now in prison charged with crossing a state line with a minor, and Amy wants other teens to know about the dangers online and to learn from her experience. "I'm lucky that I'm not dead on the side of the road right now six feet under. It's very scary."
