e-filing sets record pace

California CPA, June, 2005

e-filing sets record pace: The IRS saw a record number of e-filed tax returns during the 2005 tax season. Roughly 66 million tax returns were e-filed through April 22, up 11 percent from last year's record 62 million returns.

And there were almost twice as many visits to IRS.gov this filing season than last--111 million, compared with 55.7 million for the same period last year.

Notably, the IRS also said that it had received 46 million returns from tax professionals, up more than 10 percent from the same period last year.
