New Independent Contractor Reporting - to California Employment Development Department - Brief Article

California CPA, August, 2000

When Jan. 1, 2001 rolls around, any business or government entity that is required to file a federal Form 1099-MISC for services received may have to report specific independent contractor information to EDD. Under the new requirements, you must report to EDD within 20 days of either making payments of $600 or more, or entering into a contract for $600 or more, with an independent contractor in any calendar year, whichever is earlier.

Forms, instructions, frequently asked questions and other related information are available at http://www.edd.ca.gov/txicr.htm. Additionally, EDD has established a hotline to answer questions and order forms at (916) 657-0529.
