Get Yourself Connected Via CalCPA Listserves - California Society of Chartered Public Accountants - Brief Article

California CPA, Oct, 2001

Got a burning question about a tax dilemma? Business consulting? Technology conundrums? Or would you just like to chat about current events with your peers?

Log on to one of CalCPA's listserves to get connected with your peers and find answers to your questions.

A listserve is an electronic mailing list, and you need only an e-mail address to subscribe and may unsubscribe at any time via e-mail.

Listserves are fast becoming a popular communications tool for associations. They allow members to interact without time or geographic barriers. Often, committees or organized work groups start a listserve to exchange ideas and information. CalCPA's listserves are hosted by Yahoo! Groups at no cost. Following is a sample of some CalCPA groups you'll find in cyberspace:

* CFO-ControllerGroup provides CFOs, controllers and others interested in those functions with access to information, education and networking useful to the CFO and controller functions.

* ConsultingTalk is dedicated to providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information between individuals interested in consulting.

* CPA-PFP is a forum for CalCPA members interested in discussing personal financial planning issues.

* CPATalk is a general discussion forum for CalCPA members, your CalCPA member number is required to subscribe.

* LAindustry is an interactive mailing list for sharing information, asking questions, tossing out job leads or needs, and generally embracing the needs of industry CPAs and other interested parties.

* RAMsession is for CPAs who like to talk about computers and how they relate to your accounting practice, as well as a place to ask any kind of computer technology-related questions. RAMsession offers great advice from some of the best technologically-minded CPAs around.

* TaxTalk is a forum for discussing tax issues, asking tax questions or passing on tax information for CalCPA members.
